Game, Fish and Park Law Enforcement Officers enforce state park, recreation, snowmobile, conservation, criminal statute, and department rules to manage and protect natural resources and the users of those resources, with a strong emphasis on preventing rather than reacting to violations, to create and maintain a safe atmosphere to afford everyone the opportunity to enjoy the natural resources, department programs, recreational services, and facilities.
This position will play an integral role within the snowmobile trail program performing and reporting trail evaluations, build relationships by acting as a liaison with local clubs and organizations as well as enforcing snowmobile regulations while operating a snowmobile.
The incumbent candidate will also need to become familiar with South Dakota outdoor resource and recreation heritage as well as hunting and fishing law enforcement; will be called upon from time to time to assist the Department's Wildlife Division with hunting and fishing law enforcement and constituent contacts; and must also be comfortable with public speaking, giving presentations, drafting articles and columns for public information and playing an integral role in outdoor programs and events.
Must live within 30 miles of work location listed and must be able to work flexible hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
Applicants must be able to complete South Dakota Law Enforcement Certification within one year of employment. As well as successful completion of the Department field training program.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Applicants currently certified as South Dakota Law Enforcement Officers are preferred.
- law enforcement techniques, documentation requirements, and procedures;

- various court procedures and jurisdictional differences;
