Temporary Jr. Graphic Designer

The California Center for the Arts, Escondido is currently seeking a highly creative, innovative, and detail oriented Junior Graphic Designer to fill a temporary position. Anticipated start date: January 31, 2020 through approximately June 1, 2020.

Through arts in education, quality programming, affordable rental facilities, and low-cost and free performances, the Center is able to enrich the lives of the community it serves. *About the Role:

The Junior Graphic Designer (JGD) ensures all creative projects are completed within the established time frames and budget. Must be able to execute designs from conception through print production. Working under the supervision of our Graphic Designer and Director of Marketing, the JGD must be a multi-tasker with strong typography skills, and someone who understands the importance of color theory and modular grid layout. The goal of this position is to create impactful designs that capture the California Center for the Arts, Escondidoâs mission and vision.

à Must have exceptional creativity, innovation, and a very strong work ethic;

à Has solid experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Lightroom. Experience with Adobe Creative Premier and Adobe Creative After Effects is preferred;

à Must have a bachelorâs degree in Graphic Design or related field, and 1 year of experience in graphic design;

à Is reliable, adaptable, energetic, detailed oriented, and self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and work collaboratively and independently;

à Has excellent written, communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills; and

à Will be happy working in a fast paced, mission driven, and customer service oriented environment.

Hourly Rate: $15.00 - $16.00 hourly range based on experience and qualifications

Duties and Responsibilities:

*Key duties and responsibilities include:

Produce high volume of graphic design projects that support our Performing Arts, Community Events, Museum, Arts Education, Philanthropy, Convention Center departments. Projects include, but not limited to, Brochures, Flyers, Posters, House Programs, Print and Digital Ads, Museum Exhibition Display, Banners, Digital & Printed Invitations, and more
Create Organizational Video Reel, Season Announce and Case For Support videos
Support the team with the email marketing process including design and proofing
Coordinate with outside vendors for price estimates
Prepare final press-ready files based on supplied specifications for several types of printing
Provide image retouching and image manipulation
Package and preflight files for release to printers or media partners
Create PDFs for print and proof review
Handle press checks with the Senior Creative Designer
Catalog and reference images for future projects
Troubleshoot problems as they arise
Maintain marketing and promotional materials inventory, and oversee the grassroots outreach on campus
Assist the Senior Creative Designer and Director of Marketing with any design tasks
Attend outside events
Other duties as may be deemed necessary by the direct supervisor.

*Education and Experience:

Preferred 1 year of experience in graphic design (print and digital). Bachelorâs degree in Graphic Design or related field. Non-profit experience desired but not required.
